Clary sage – Provençal softness

Clary sage oil is steam-distilled from the flowering tops and leaves of the Salvia sclarea plant from France. Linalyl acetate and linalool dominate – the same components as in lavender – so the scent is soft, slightly sweet and herbaceous, with a faint musky note.

In a diffuser it is a lovely evening oil – on its own or with lavender, bergamot and geranium. It is milder than common sage and without its sharpness.

How to use

Ultrasonic diffuser: 3–5 drops per 100 ml of water (roughly 10–15 drops for a 300–400 ml tank).
Waterless nebuliser: pour the oil into the device’s 10 ml bottle and screw it on.
Scent stones, wooden beads or ceramics: 2–3 drops, repeat as needed.
Do not apply the oil to the skin and do not swallow it. Air the room from time to time during use. Keep tightly closed in a cool, dark place, out of reach of children and pets.

Is clary sage really a 100% natural essential oil?

Yes. The bottle contains only essential oil obtained from Salvia sclarea (flowering tops and leaves, steam distillation), in line with the definition of an essential oil in ISO 9235. We add no carrier oils, alcohol, solvents or synthetic fragrances. Purity is confirmed by the supplier’s safety data sheet, certificate of analysis and IFRA certificate.

How many drops do I put in the diffuser?

For an ultrasonic diffuser, 3–5 drops per 100 ml of water is enough. Start with fewer and increase the dose as needed – essential oils are intense.

Can I apply the oil directly to my skin?

No. Essential oils are highly concentrated and can irritate the skin or trigger an allergic reaction. This product is intended for scenting rooms and is not a cosmetic product.

Is this the same as common sage?

No. Clary sage (Salvia sclarea) has a softer, sweeter scent and a different composition from common sage (Salvia officinalis), which is less usual in aromatherapy.

Which oils does clary sage blend well with?

Clary sage pairs well with lavender, bergamot, geranium, cedarwood and sweet orange. For a calm evening try 2 drops of clary sage and 3 drops of lavender.

Is it suitable for a room with children and pets?

Keep the bottle out of reach of children and animals. Do not run a diffuser in a room where a baby is sleeping, and always give pets the option to move to a scent-free room. Cats are especially sensitive to essential oils.
